Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was sent to a one-day judicial custody by the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) Court on Thursday (1 February) in a land scam case.
While the Enforcement Directorate (ED) sought custody for 10 days, the court will decide on it in tomorrow’s hearing. Soren was arrested yesterday by the ED after he submitted his resignation from the CM post.
Notably, the Supreme Court is also set to hear Soren’s plea against his arrest by the ED tomorrow. Lawyers Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi are representing Soren there.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan has yet not approved the government claim by JMM legislature party leader Champai Soren, who is expecting to become the next CM.
His delegation including four other leaders from the JMM-Congress alliance is scheduled to meet the Governor at Raj Bhavan in Ranchi at 5:30 pm.
However, amid apprehensions about the Governor’s approval, a possible move can be to shift the alliance legislators to Hyderabad to avoid external pressures.
Chartered planes have reportedly landed at Ranchi airport, awaiting orders to transport the alliance MLAs to Hyderabad. The move is seen as a precautionary measure amid the evolving political scenario in the state.
