Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conducted an aerial survey of areas affected by waterlogging and flooding due to cyclone Minchaung in Chennai.
Following the survey, he also held a meeting with Chief Minister MK Stalin and other officials. He announced that the Prime Minister had directed the Union Home Ministry to release in advance the second installment of Rs 450 crore to Tamil Nadu’s State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).
Further, he added that the central government had approved the first urban flood mitigation project of Rs. 561.29 crore for ‘Integrated Urban Flood Management activities for Chennai Basin Project’ under the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF), which also includes central assistance of Rs 500 crore.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) about the visit, Chief Minister MK Stalin wrote, “I thank Hon’ble Thiru @rajnathsingh for visiting #Chennai to assess the impact of #CycloneMichaung. Shared a detailed overview of the devastation caused by the floods and requested his support in immediately releasing ₹5,060 Cr as interim relief to rectify the damage incurred. I hope he will ensure that Tamil Nadu receives the necessary support and assistance for a resilient recovery.”
