In a bid to counter Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling BJP, leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc are set to convene in the national capital on 19 December for their fourth meeting.

As reported by Moneycontrol, the gathering aims to address critical challenges, including the formulation of a “core positive agenda,” strategising seat-sharing arrangements and planning joint election rallies.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh while announcing the meeting, emphasised the opposition’s commitment to the theme of unity, encapsulated in the slogan “Main Nahin, Hum” (We, Not Me).

This theme is intended as a collective response to Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.

The meeting comes in the aftermath of the Congress party’s disappointing performance in recent assembly elections, particularly in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.

Despite the setbacks in the recent polls, the opposition contends that issues such as caste census and the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme, which formed the crux of their campaign, have not been rejected by the electorate.

The primary challenge facing the opposition is to present a positive alternative agenda that can effectively counter the BJP in the upcoming general elections.

The INDIA bloc also plans to scrutinise the impact of the tenures of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and current Prime Minister Modi on the lives of the common man.

The Adani issue is also slated to be a focal point in the opposition’s campaign.
